The doctoral academic study program in Waste Management, within the educational-scientific field of technical-technaging ciences, specifically the area of industrial engineering and engineering management, has a clearly defined scientific, educational, and professional purpose. The purpose of the program is to educate researchers and experts at the highest academic level, qualified for independent and original scientific research in the field of waste management, as well as for the development and application of contemporary solutions in waste management systems in accordance with the principles of sustainable development, environmental protection, and the rational use of resources. The program is oriented toward the acquisition of advanced theoretical, methodological, and research knowledge in the field of waste management, with particular emphasis on the planning, organization, modeling, analysis, optimization, and mprovement of systems for the collection, transport, treatment, reuse, recycling, valorization, and disposal of waste. In this regard, the program encompasses the study and improvement of the management of different waste streams, including municipal, industrial, and medical waste, while taking into account their specific characteristics, risks, and requirements for safe and sustainable handling.
The objectives of the study program are aligned with the vision and mission of the Faculty of Engineering Management. The program is aimed at educating and training students to understand the theories of systems engineering and engineering management, to develop process-oriented thinking that enables a holistic view of industrial systems, and to foster critical reflection and the creative design of new and improved solutions. Students study and apply contemporary research and development methods and techniques in order to successfully complete the projects and doctoral dissertation envisaged by the study program. Students also develop project management skills in order to participate more easily and effectively in scientific and research projects, both within and beyond the academic environment.
Learning outcomes: Students are expected to enhance and deepen their theoretical knowledge in the fields of recycling, storage, and waste management, as well as to acquire the skills and abilities necessary for methodologically sound work in solving scientific research and research-related problems. Upon successfully passing examinations, completing project assignments, and defending the doctoral dissertation, students are qualified to engage in scientific research in the field of technical-technological sciences, specifically industrial engineering and engineering management.
