Prof. Dr. Katarina Štrbac, Master’s Thesis Mentor of Miloš Milanović, Serbian UEFA Referee

Katarina Štrbac, full professor at the Department of Security, was the master’s thesis mentor of Miloš Milanović, the youngest Serbian international football referee who recently received the trust of the UEFA Referee Commission and was chosen as the main referee for the match of the 5th round of the UEFA Conference League between Fiorentina and Dynamo Kyiv.

The master’s thesis entitled “Security management of international actors in the stabilization of the Republic of Mali” presents a comprehensive analysis of the role of international actors in one of the most complex security environments of the modern world – the Sahel region.
The research combines liberal interventionism, realist theory and postcolonial approaches, systematically examining how different models of international engagement affect stabilization processes in states with weak institutional capacities. Through a comparative analysis of five key actors (MINUSMA, France, Russia/Wagner Group, European Union and ECOWAS), the paper shows that fragmented and often conflicting strategies significantly limit the prospects for lasting peace.

Professor Štrbac points out that the findings of the research showed that international interventions, despite some short-term developments, failed to solve the structural causes of instability in the region. Sustainable stabilization requires an integrated approach that links military security, political dialogue, socio-economic development and strong involvement of local communities.

We congratulate Miloš on his success!
