Oman’s Role in Calming Tensions in the Middle East – Guest Appearance by Prof. Dr. Ana Jurčić on Television K1
Professor Ana Jurčić was a guest on a television show dedicated to the current security situation in the Middle East, where she spoke about the escalation of tensions in the Persian Gulf region and the role of Oman in regional diplomacy.
“Can Oman play an important role in de-escalating tensions in the Middle East? How has Muscat managed so far to pursue a policy of balancing, dialogue and mediation between Iran and the West?” – were some of the questions discussed with Prof. Dr. Ana Jurčić, an expert in intercultural management, who spent a significant part of her international academic career working as a professor in the Sultanate of Oman.
During the conversation, the recent attacks on the energy infrastructure in Oman and the wider consequences of the current crisis for the stability of the region were analyzed, as well as the specific diplomatic position of Oman, which for decades has been considered one of the key mediators between opposing actors in the Middle East.
The show also emphasized the importance of understanding the intercultural dimension of conflicts. According to Prof. Dr. Jurčić, analyzes of Middle Eastern crises are often dominantly geopolitical, while the cultural, social and historical contexts of the region are insufficiently taken into account. Understanding political culture, security perception and regional identities is essential for interpreting states’ behavior and possible diplomatic outcomes.
The visit once again pointed to the importance of connecting academic knowledge in the field of intercultural management with contemporary international challenges, as well as the contribution of the School of Engineering Management and Beopolis University to public debates on global political and social processes.
