Professor Katarina Štrbac at the Conference on Security Cooperation, held in Ohrid
Prof. Dr. Katarina Štrbac participated as a presenter at the Conference “NATO and Security Cooperation in the Western Balkans – Challenges and Lessons Learned”. The conference was held from August 25-29, 2023, in Ohrid, North Macedonia.
Professor Štrbac spoke about energy security in the Western Balkans – views from Serbia. The focus of the panel was on issues of energy security and the energy crisis of the Western Balkans. It will be difficult for decision-makers working on the European Commission’s Western Balkans Green Agenda to balance rising costs and energy security with the goal of environmental protection. In addition, the determination of the governments of the region to act in synergy, with a coordinated approach, is crucial. The Western Balkans region is a relatively small consumer of gas and has an underdeveloped gas infrastructure, as well as extensive projects to diversify routes and sources of supply with significant EU support.
